I guess it depends on the application to which you are pasting. I
think that if you paste to Word, graphics are copied out as windows
meta files. There is probably room for improvement in this area of
Mathematica. OOTH, the command based exports are not horrible (and also are
not perfect at times). If you export a bunch of files to a directory,
you could then import them to the other application manually.
