thanks, andrzej. that's a liitle more light on the subject.

as i said in another post, i have a found a much easier replacement 
("GraphicsGrid ") for that use of Rectangle, so i no longer care much 
about the error message i get.

if someone posts a working example, i'll eagerly give it a try, but i'm 
not going to try to construct one.
