User interface size and default stylesheet

When I installed Mathematica for the first time back in March, the
default font size was nice and big, and the BasicInput.nb panel was
also pretty large (as in the Definite Integral button was at least 80px big)
But then I tried to change the default stylesheet and got nowhere, then all
the font sizes went a good few sizes smaller. I don't know what I did, or
even if the large font sizes I was used to were the defaults, but this is
what it currently looks like:

What I want is to make everything larger (about 150%) on all the palletes
and change the default style for new notebooks to the "Demo" style. I've
tried reinstalling Mathematica (and deleting my profile information). but to no
effect, so I guess "small" is the default.
Any tips?
Thanks
