I have had problems with white borders in exported images as well.
(with Mathematica 5.2 for Windows (XP), I'm not sure the problem persists in
v. 6)
It turned out, however, that the 1-pixel border was not always
*white*, but it was the color of "Window" as it is set in the Display
Properties of Windows XP (which usually happens to be white) (Go to
Display Properties ('Appearance' Tab) > Advanced and choose the Item
'Window'. Whatever color you set there will be the color of the
additional pixel frame when you export an image from Mathematica) By
the way, when you change this color, the background color of the
notebook window will change accordingly. If I remember correctly,
however, it is NOT sufficient to change the background color of the
notebook alone to change the export-frame color.
I am curious if this is a Windows-specific bug of Mathematica or if it
happens on other platforms as well.
