In my 5.1 version under Linux Gentoo I get :

alf= 1.

Mathematica under Vista is better ? Or version 7 is stablest ?

Temporary I used 
(U1[x+eps]-U1[eps])/eps in place U1'[x]
with small eps to stabilize memory...
