Many thanks to all who responded. Actually, I did search on "compatibility" (along with "legacy" and "graphics"). Only just now did I find the relevant "Incompatible Changes since Mathematica Version 1" tutorial in a Documentation Center search -- on page 16 of the 19 pages of results for "compatibility"! It had not occurred to me to search on "incompatible"; if I had done so, it would have been the 4th entry on page 1 of the search results.
