Check under Help -> Internet Connectivity if you have "Allow Mathematica to
access the Internet" checked. Then try the "Test Internet Connectivity".

The chemical and astronomical data services seem to work just fine at my 
machine, with 6.0.2 on an Intel iMac:

$Version

"6.0 for Mac OS X x86 (64-bit) (February 7, 2008)"
