Hi Mitch,
I run the same versions of Mathematica and OS X on a MacBook pro and
it seems very stable.
I have experienced rare "spinning color wheels of death" .
This has been very rarely in Mathematica and mostly using SuperDuper for backup.
This seems related to intermittent hardware (maybe firmware)
problems with my WDMyBook 1TB drives.
