The functionality you suggest could certainly be made optional in a
future versions of Mathematica, however the OD documentation is in my opinion
generally superior because it is live, that is you can copy/paste the
help cells onto your NB , but also directly modify the cells in the OD
help file and see the new output (the help file will not be
overwritten).
Regarding some of your other points:
2- you can enlarge OD help like any other NB window, clicking on the
bottom right button
3- for OD: click on the window and press pagedown
4- I agree with you
5- have not checked yet
6- I have several program windows open at the same time, so using ctrl-
tab cycling would take too long. I simply have 2 monitors and put the
help in the second one. You can also use the window menu to select a
different window in Mathematica.
7- I agree, but these updates are not made every day, so you won't see
much in your day by day usage
