avi and QuickTime

greetings; i found an example or two of making and exporting .avi animations. however, when the .avi movies are opened in QuickTime, they appear black. other .avi movies (from other sources) seem to work ok in QuickTime. any ideas on this? also, i couldn/t seem to find an appropriate syntax to Export as "QuickTime". the complaint was always about the extension in the filename. m. r.
