Problem with inserting brackets in 7.0

Dear All,

I am using Mathematica 7 on Fedora 10. When I try to insert a
[ bracket with

Alt Gr + [

I get Alt Gr inserting a bunch of spaces before inserting the bracket.
Any ideas about how to solve this problem?
