I made a 400 x 400 plot of heights using ListPlot3D. The data was
from a USGS dataset of the Apollo 15 landing site, 50 meter.
Exporting the plot to DXF took 21 hours on a 2Ghz dual-processor Intel
MacBookPro, Mathematica 7, Mac OS 10.6.2. The activity monitor showed
100.4 percent on one processor, and 3.4 percent on the other for the
kernel and the front end, respectively. The dxf file is 37.5 meg.
Earlier attempts with larger areas failed in 30 minutes to an hour
with an out of memory error. (There is 2Gb installed.)
