mathematica@linux, character encoding

For some reason I can't get these two east-european characters printed 
properly (to pdf) from the text-cell: ð and ¹. They are not shown in the 
same font in "working screen environment", while they produce some mash 
in "printout scr. env.".
Can someone try testing this sequence of characters "cèc cæc z¾z s¹s 
dðd" (in a text cell) on his/her computer  (copy&paste from here) and 
see what's the output like.

All the options that I've tried in Global Option Inspector that were 
related to fonts and encodings didn't help, some of them made things worse.



Since the $SystemCharacterEncoding command says "ISO8859-1", I should 
maybe try to change something in Linux configuration, but I don't know 
what...
