I'd like to display i and e in the more traditional italic case rather than the double-letter font. It seems easy to change the display of complex i using

In[3]:=
MakeBoxes[\[ImaginaryI], TraditionalForm] := eye

In[4]:=
\[ImaginaryI]// TraditionalForm

Out[4]//TraditionalForm=
eye

But the same technique doesn't work for exponential e:

In[15] :=
MakeBoxes[\[ExponentialE], TradionalForm] := eee

IIn[16]:=
\[ExponentialE]//TraditionalForm

Out[16]//TraditionalForm=
\[ExponentialE]

Anyone know what is going on or techniqes for debugging this? Thanks.
