{{Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &,
1]}, {{1 + 5 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1] -
2 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1]^2, -2 -
4 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1] +
2 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1]^2,
3 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1] -
Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1]^2,
1 - 5 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1] +
2 Root[-1 - #1 - 2 #1^2 + #1^3 &, 1]^2, 1}}}
This solution was given as the eigensystem to a matrix. Please can anyone explain how the first solution which is the largest eigenvalue becomes 2.54682 as a decimal? I have read about 'pure functions' but still confused.
many thanks, Sheila
