Hi, I've started using Mathematica for preparing technical documents.

I haven't yet been able to figure out how to refer to equation numbers in the body of document in a way that automatically updates the numbering when it changes due to the insertion or deletion of equations.

To label an equation using the default stylesheet, I select the style "DisplayFunctionNumbered" for its cell. I would like to refer to the equation by number without having to manually update my reference to equation if the numbering subsequently changes.

I'd appreciate any advice on this problem. Thanks!
