I need to calculate the gradient of an array of
surface data: z = f(x,y).
Unfortunately, the surface is not analytically
expressed in terms of x and y
so I don't think I can use the Grad function. My first
technique was to look
at this data one column at a time [z = f(x)] and use
the Interpolation function
to approximate the surface data. I could then
calculate the derivative with
respect to x using D[z,x]. I can use the
ListInterpolation function to approximate the surface
data f(x,y) but is there a way I can use the Grad
function to calculate the gradient?
