Hi. I am trying to make 2-D disk plots of Spherical Harmonic patterns (via ColorFunction) as they would appear on a sphere viewed from very far away. In the attached notebook, I have made a 3D model of a sphere with Spherical Harmonic numbers l=3 and m=2. I then use ViewPoint to simulate the 2-D disk that I am trying to achieve.

Is there a way to achieve this 2-D disk plot without using 3D graphics first? Perhaps by using Orthographic projection equations?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
