I am trying to type an assignment using Mathematica 6.0.2.1 Student Edition on Windows XP 32-bit and have noticed it crashes fairly reliably about once per hour of entering equations. Version 5 did not have these problems.

I really don't understand why there isn't the least bit of code to at least try to save a last chance copy of the current notebook. How hard is it, really, to add a
try { run(); } catch { save(); }
to the application? And why does Mathematica rely on the operating system for exception reporting? This is not ten years ago, software has moved on. Microsoft products, Autodesk products, even open source products have custom exception reporting, autosave, and document recovery. What is the problem?

Frustrated.
