I want to change a base 10 number to binary and then turn it into a list of elements (like applying IntegerDigits[] to a number), but I'm having trouble because of that damn subscript that BaseForm[] adds, and that it uses the String Head.

For example, if I want to turn 456 in binary which is 111001000 so I would like to end up with {1,1,1,0,0,1,0,0,0}, the nearest I can get is Characters@ToString@BaseForm[456, 2] but that gives me some nonsense plus they all have String as a Head...

Any help greatly appreciated :)
