Thanks yehuda, that code was very helpful.
I also realized that the infinitely increasing theta graph was caused by my setting v0 = 5, which is an extremely high speed in radians/sec. This caused the pendulum to "wrap around" its axis instead of oscillating like a traditional pendulum.
