When I have this statement alone in my init.m file, "x" becomes set in the global context (therefore it appears black when I type it in a notebook):

However, I see no reason for this to set the variable "x"; indeed, it does not cause x to be set if it is run in a blank notebook.

Can anyone reproduce this?
