Whenever I try to start Mathematica 7.0, I get an error message that says "Mathematica could not establish a connection to the kernel. Kernel: Local. Low-level MathLink error: The linkname was missing or not in the proper form."

How can I solve this? I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 x64, my firewall is disabled, I have no antivirus... is there anything else I need to provide? I really need Mathematica working for school, as urgently as possible, but it simply refuses to start. Help!
