Finite Diff. max iterations

I have a relatively simple question on how to work around an error I get in my Mathematica demonstration.
In my finite difference demonstration, the user has the option to choose different pmax (maximum iterations in time) values to compute. If the user chooses a large number of iterations and proceeds to move this demonstration in time it works fine. However, if they are at the maximum value in time and proceed to change pmax to a lower value...errors occur because the demonstration does not compute enough iterations.
I was hoping if there is a way to make p reset to 1 every time you move pmax.
Thank you.
