I am having a hard time using the interpolation function. Can anyone walk me through step by step of how to use it? Here is what I'm trying to interpolate:

immigrationdata ={{1825,0.015},{1835,0.060},{1845,0.171},
   {1855,0.260},{1865,0.215},{1875,0.281},{1885,0.525},
   {1895,0.369},{1905,0.880},{1915,0.574},{1925,0.411},
   {1935,.053},{1945,0.104},{1955,0.252},{1965,0.332},
   {1975,0.449},{1985,0.734}};

immigrationdataplot = ListPlot[immigrationdata, AxesLabel->{"year","immigrants"},
   PlotStyle->{Darker[Green],PointSize[0.03]}]
