hi bill!
thanks a lot for your reply. I could indeed fix the number of observations (e.g. to 3) but the truth is that I would really prefer to remain as general as possible. the funny thing is that in the paper I refer to, the authors get to the good result, so it must be possible.
One possibility would be that the SMLE.m file, which I have attached, is not adapted to Mathematica 7. I am not that familiar with macros/packages, but do you think you could have a look at it and verify?
