Very old book?

Take the semicolon off
plotintrinsic[(# + Sin[#]) &, 0, {0, 0, 0}, {-18, 18}, PlotPoints -> 80]

Since 6.0, a semicolon after a plotting function prevents the output (like "2+2;").
