Hello!

I want to import some (physical matrix-) data, stored in a file-format like:

# Created by Octave 2.0.16, Fri Nov 9 10:05:53 2001 <msoehn@moses>
# name: a
# type: matrix
# rows: 2
# columns: 5
1 2 3 4 5
6 7 8 9 0

One can in principal do that with

inlist = Import["filename", "Table"];

what yields a Mathematica-Table of the form:

{{"#", "Created", "by", "Octave", 0.32, "Fri", "Nov", 9, "10:05:53", 2001, "<msoehn@moses>"},
{"#", "name:", "a"}, {"#", "type:", "matrix"},
{"#", "rows:", 2}, {"#", "columns:", 5},
{1, 2, 3, 4, 5}, {6, 7, 8, 9, 0}}

However, this works well.
The problem is: When I want to import a much bigger file (same file format, but some MB's of file size) in the same way, I have to drink many, many coffees (more than half an our on a PIII 800).
So how can can I speed up this importing procedure?

Thanks in advance,
