With your example, I got

In[1]:= Integrate[ x^sqrt(x), x]
Out[1]= x^(2+sqrt)/(2+sqrt)

because x^sqrt(x) is interpreted as
(x^sqrt)*x == x^(sqrt+1)

Please provide the actual input and output.

If you need help with the syntax, please see,
