Haven't had this question (or more often, the reverse - using more threads) in years.

I am guessing you are doing lots of floating-point matrix algebra on MS-Windows.


For 8.0, setting the environment variable MKL_NUM_THREADS to 1, or, in Mathematica,

SetSystemOptions[MKLThreads -> 1]

would do it. Probably will in 9.
