There is no step by step evaluation built into
Mathematica. You can use the Trace function
to seem some of what Mathematica is doing but
more often than not, computer algorithms are not
the same as "by hand" algorithms. Step by Step
notebooks and functions have been developed by
individuals and textbook authors. One example
is the Step by Step Differentiation notebook
available in the Getting Started/Demos section
of the Help Browser. The same author, George
Beck has some other notebooks available on
MathSource (mathsource.wolfram.com). Some
texts are available from the Wolfram Store
(store.wolfram.com)
