Until now, I've been using Mathematica 5 under Red Hat on a Dell Inspiron 8100 (1GHz, 512MB RAM). I just transferred my work to a Mac G4 Powerbook (1.3GHz, 512 MB RAM) where I'm using Mathematica 5.2 under OS 10.4.2.
A piece of my code is taking way too long now. The last line of the attached file takes .01 sec in Linux. It takes .2 seconds on the Mac - 20 times longer! Since this line gets looped many times, my programs are taking unreasonably long to complete.
Is there a way to speed up Mathematica on a Mac? Can the code be written more efficiently? Please help!
