Looks as if mathematica doesn't send missing fonts automatically to the printer, so I got around by sending the missing fonts in advance to the printer (on my mac with Apple Printer Utility). Cumbersome, because you have to repeat it after each time the printer is switched off (if it has no hard disk). On wolframs page you may find another solution in the FAQ, sth like opening the option inspector, notebook options->PrinterSetup->PrinterSetup->RenderPostScriptInFrontEnd, and then when you want to print there will be another message asking what to do - click RenderInFronted (3rd option). But this doesn't solve the problem of exporting eps-files for import in other system (LaTeX in my case), thats why I choose the first solution.
