I had the 3.00 version for students but I had some problems with it (it did not print correctly and some options were not working correctly). I emailed the student support section at the Wolfram site (telling them about all the problems I had) and a technician arranged for me to receive a free upgrade to 3.0.1.1 (it was sent UPS 2nd day delivery). So try emailing the student support group. I would not speak with the people at sales (or whatever they call it because they told me originally that I could not get an upgrade). So far, version 3.0.1.1 for students seems to be much faster (and all the old bugs that I saw in 3.00 are gone it seems). I once plotted a complicated contour plot with 3.0.0 and it took it about 45-60 minutes. When I did the same thing (the same plot) with 3.0.1.1 it took it only about 10-15 mintues. Don't ask me why. Supposedly everything in the program is now better optimized for Win95 and runs much faster. I would reccommend getting the upgrade if you can.
