I have a function in version 2.2 which reads U.S.G.S. DEM elevation data and makes contour maps, etc. Recently I upgraded to version 3.01 for the Macintosh. On my old and kind of clunky PowerMac, to read a 1 MB DEM file into a Mathematica list takes 21 seconds in version 2.2. But in version 3.01 it takes 200 seconds!!! What is going on?
