Try this: (if you are in Version 3)
Open your mathematica file on your mac and delete all outputs, save your
file.
Open on your mac this file with text editor (TeachText), identify the
expression
Notebook[....], copy it on a new text file and save it (as a text file).
Transfer this file on you PC.
With a text editor (Notepad) copy in clipboard the Notebook expression.
Start the FrontEnd and paste the expression from clipboard.

In fact I never had a problem transferring (Mathematica) files from a
mac to Winnt (and to be more precise, from version 2.2 on mac to
version 3 on pc), after deleting most of the outputs.

For file transfers (any kind) I used either a mac program that detects
DOS diskettes, or a PC program that detects Mac diskettes. Email to me
directly for more details (that was years ago and I do no remember
program names, but I still have them and they still work because some
people here use them)

Hope this helps,

Alright, in a follow up to my original vague post, here are some more
details.

I have created several mathematica notebooks in Mathematica 3.0 on my
macintosh. I would like to work with this files directly on my PC
using mathematica 3.0.

I have tried several instances of getting the files transferred. I
copied

via floppy. I tried both a floppy formatted on my and a different floppy
formatted on the pc. To my surprise the file was not readable by
Mathematica, it froze to the point that I had to quit the program using
the
task manager.

Next I emailed to myself using uuencode formats using both eudora and
outlook on both my mac and pc. To no avail, the file still was not
readable
by Mathematica, it froze again.

In transferring the files, in each case i tried opening the file
directly in
mathematica. I also opened them a text editor then saved it again as a
.nb
file.

I then proceeded to try the save as special... and open special...
commands.
None of these worked.

Could someone please answer this for me. In a compatibility test, i
then created from scratch a .nb file on the pc. I then copied the .nb
file to a
pc formatted floopy. then took the file to my mac, copied to the hard
drive
and then opened the file from mathematica. It worked flawlessly. No
surprise.

Could someone please shed some light on this? What could I be doing
wrong? I know this should work.
