Regarding Factor with Extension, there is a bug
in version 4.0 for PowerMacintosh:
Factor[1 + 2 z^4, Extension -> {Sqrt[-2]/3}] // Expand
(1/9) + 2 z^4
I cannot say if the bug is still there in version 4.1,
because I am still waiting for the upgrade (I am a
Premier Service subscriber, but out of the U.S.)
