Plot it to get some idea of what you are dealing with...
Plot[Sin[x] - (x - 1), {x, -10, 10},
PlotRange -> All];
...and then use FindRoot.
FindRoot[Sin[x] == x - 1, {x, 2}]
{x -> 1.93456}
