Mac iBook, OS 9.2, Mathematica 4.2:
When I open any notebook that has a "]" (right square bracket) in it, or
type same into a new empty notebook, the above message comes up in a
dialog box, followed by
" . . . Mathematica 4.2 Files:System Files:FrontEnd:Text:Resources:
Macintosh:UnicodeLanguageFontMapping.tr"
Clicking the go-away button makes the box go away and Mathematica runs
apparently OK, except all ]'s appear on screen replaced by, some days
ago it was "oB" (in boldface, with the "o" being a raised degree
symbol), and more recently it's a solid black box.
Attempted cures (unsuccessful thus far):
* Found the (faulty?) file as named above and replaced it with the same
file from a backup (although a very recent one).
* Opened the file in Mathematica; no problem in opening it; it looked normal
(long list of xxxx xxxxx xxxx codings) although it's too long (684K)
to inspect every line. Saved it, no problems. (Maybe should have tried
"Save As"?)
* Rebuilt desktop.
* Did a complete TechTool Pro diagnosis of my system, including full
Surface Scan; no problems found, except a couple of minor bundle bit
problems with some other files.
Any ideas? What's the ASCII or hex code for "]"?
