multidimensional interpolation

Owing to Mathematica 4 -- Help on Interpolation:
"Multidimensional data can be given in the form {{x1,y1,...,f1},...}.",
however, I cannot do: Interpolation[{{0,0,0},{1,1,1},{2,2,2}}]
Why?
