I'm not exactly certain what you are trying to do, but have you looked at 
saving a Mathematica notebook as a html file? That will automatically save 
the graphics as GIFs in the correct visual order and will make it very 
easy to continue to edit in MSWord (at least the versions that have good 
html import capabilities.)
