Problem with Thread over Plus?

Hello,

Why does this work:

	Thread[ Plus[ {1,1} , { {1,1} , {2,2} } ] ]

but this doesn't?

	Thread[ Plus[ {1,1} , { {1,1} , {2,2} , {3,3} } ] ]
