Conversion only

In[4]:= ToString /@ Range[5]

Out[4]= {"1", "2", "3", "4", "5"}

Incorporation into longer names (one)

In[9]:= ("v" <> #) & /@ (ToString /@ Range[5])

Out[9]= {"v1", "v2", "v3", "v4", "v5"}

Incorporation into longer names (two)

In[10]:= Table["v" <> ToString[i], {i, 5}]

Out[10]= {"v1", "v2", "v3", "v4", "v5"}

In[11]:= Head /@ %

Out[11]= {String, String, String, String, String}
