MEETING

21 August 2009, 7:30 am

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)
8301 Greensboro Drive
McLean VA
Southern Corner of Westpark Drive and Greensboro Drive

Agenda

1. Prepared Talks

Help Explorer: Navigating the Knotted Web of Mathematica Help Files, by
Bernard Gress

Abstract. Help Explorer operates within Manipulate to show the network of
hyperlinks between all Mathematica help files. The network builds automatically
from diverse Help directories, and then the user clicks to open the desired
help page (the graph gets re-centered on the page). We'll see how Dynamic,
Button, GraphPlot, and various brilliant/ingenious methods of generating the
networks all conspire to find neighborhoods of varying degree having
multi-colored nodes.

Dynamic Timeline Plots and Personal Knowledge Database, by Dan Martinez

Abstract. Dan will update us on the fascinating work he's doing with
Timeline Plots (if only all of MathGroup could see what he's doing).
Thereafter, we'll get an update on his longstanding work with PKD.

What I Did at Advanced Mathematica Summer School, by Bernard Gress.

Abstract. Bernie will report on how summer school went two months ago.
Maybe next year some of us will follow in his footsteps.

2. Mathematica Gems and Discoveries

- Sharing of Mathematica programming oddities
- Applications of Mathematica to some areas of science
- Something recently read and worth sharing

3. Mathematica Questions, Possible Approaches and Discussion

4. New Business

- Select next meeting presentation, time and place
