MEETING

21 January 2011, 7:30 am

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)
8301 Greensboro Drive
McLean VA
Southern Corner of Westpark Drive and Greensboro Drive
Agenda

1. Prepared Talks

"Using Datatypes in Mathematica and Responsive Graphic Labels", by Harry
Bishop

ABSTRACT. Although Mathematica doesn't use OOP, datatypes can associate
data elements with functions by overloading a head form. Labels on graphics
are easy to put on a static image; however changing the image with
Manipulate can result in rearranging positions that require labeling and
background elements to reposition dynamically.

"Data Set Sensitivity Analysis Using Graphics", by Dan Martinez

ABSTRACT. Dan will show how the EllipsoidQuantile wrapper can be combined
with ordinary plotting to depict systematic relationships in data sets.

"Mathematica 8.0 and Group Theory," by Bruce Colletti

ABSTRACT. (This talk had been scheduled for December 2010) We'll quickly
survey Mathematica's group theory capabilities.

2. Mathematica Gems and Discoveries

Sharing of Mathematica programming oddities
Applications of Mathematica to some areas of science
Something recently read and worth sharing

3. Mathematica Questions, Possible Approaches and Discussion

4. New Business
