It's hard to take Mathematica out of "word processor" mode. We currently use C# or Python utilities to talk to scopes, multi-meters and so on. Any chance Mathematic will offer LXI style interface similar (in nature) to the database connection tools they currently offer?

If someone knows of a clever way to do LXI or use IVI-Com drivers (preferably Ethernet) directly from Mathematica, it would be appreciated.
