The first time I tried your command, the kernel quit, i.e., the evaluation stopped without any output. This happened a couple times. But after I did some other integrals and came back to your evaluation, Mathematica gave me the result you see below. Now I cannot reproduce the kernel crash any more.

Integrate[x/Sqrt[x^2 + y^2], {y, -1/2, 3/2}, {x, -1, 1/2 - y}]

1/32 (2 Sqrt[5] - 2 Sqrt[13] - 16 ArcSinh[1/2] - 16 ArcSinh[3/2] + 
   Sqrt[2] ArcSinh[3] + Sqrt[2] ArcSinh[5])

(8.0.1 on Mac)
