In a crash report you should say which version of mathematica

First question: did it crash the front end or kernel? probably the
microsoft front end.

you know it if you used Short or Shallow it'd be bound to help

I'm sure you know you can turn off the "predictive" things and pop-
ups.

(when the kernel has long output the front-end can take a while
loading it into (the video card) or display, there are physical limits
to that, and you might have to reboot the pc if you test the fail-safe
limits, since they may miss something and or cause a crash)

As to the pop-up maybe that's a problem yes. However it could be a
Font problem or some other problem; it's not necessarily a length
problem.
