Output in Do loops

If I put Print of PutAppend functions inside Do loops, I get:

Set::write: Symbol Times is write protected.

followed by nonsense calculations (it appears). Is this a known
bug?  I'll be happy to supply a sample, if someone needs it, though
it happens *every* time (i.e., in different Mma programs).
