ComplexExpand

This function doesn't work as advertised on pg. 604 the the Mma book.  Using
v. 2.1 on a Mac I get the following:

ComplexExpand[Tan[x+I y]]
I Im[Tan[x + I y]] + Re[Tan[x + I y]]

Any suggestions?   Thanks.........Jim Wendel
